Senior school

The senior school program at Claremont Special School focuses on the development of individual student pathways through the Senior Education Transition Plan and PATH processes leading to post school learning, work or supported employment opportunities, and active citizenship opportunities.

Students in the senior school have the opportunity to achieve a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA), school based certificates, certified certificates through the regional special school's RTO SETA or traineeships. SETA's Webpage can be accessed for more information.

The Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement curriculum organisers include: Personal and Living Dimensions, Community Citizenship and the Environment, Leisure and Recreation. The organisers and learning outcomes are embedded within the Senior Education Transition Plan process.

The following certificate courses are offered to students in the senior school at Claremont Special School:

  • Certificate 1 Hospitality

  • Certificate 1 Access to Vocational Pathways (literacy and numeracy focus)

  • Certificate 1 Agrifoods (Horticulture)

  • Certificate 1 Active Volunteering

The school during 2015 explored programs through ASDAN for students unable to complete certificate courses. The student's program will be individually tailored according to student need and parent input. The program has continued within the school offering varied opportunities to students.

Students in the senior school will access internal and external work experience opportunities in preparation for transition to the work force or supported employment.

Some students are able to access school based traineeships through an employment agency at a certificate 11 level. Students attend paid work experience as part of the course.

Examples include:

Endeavour, Plants Plus, Horseriding for Disabled, Brothers Leagues Club, Coles, Meals on wheels, Wreckers, Substation 66

A number of students currently have school based traineeships and complete a Certificate 11 in Retail and Hospitality.

New opportunities are being accessed across the year.
