On 24 May 2012, the school community were notified by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) that the establishment of a chaplaincy program at the school would be funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Prior to this, community consultation provided a strong endorsement for a school chaplaincy program in Claremont Special School.

At the P&C meeting on 10 February 2012, the parent body discussed the potential role of a chaplain in the school, and throughout the discussion many parents made positive supporting statements for the chaplaincy service.

The chaplain commenced working in the school during 2013 and supports the students and families within the community. The chaplain supports the breakfast club, sporting activities, school camps, in class activities, P and C activities, fundraising and wellbeing.

The department of Education Training and Employment support Chaplaincy Services in Queensland State Schools.
