This week we celebrate and recognise the work of Speech Language Pathologists employed in the Department of Education. We would like to acknowledge the work of our Speech Language Pathologist Emma and say a very big thank you for the support she provides to our teachers, students and families!

Over the last few weeks, Emma has been working with Lisa (OT), Kate our communication coach, and the teachers in the lower middle school to implement each Wednesday Communication Playgroups focused on pretend and sensory play. Aided Language Display (ALD) boards, PODDs and real and life like props have been used to support student engagement.

The activities have so many learning opportunities including sharing and turn taking, creative play, language concepts and developing narrative scripts and expressive language skills using AAC and modelling from others, numeracy and emergent literacy development.
